As part of the International Coastal Cleanup Day, created by the Ocean Conservancy organization to promote the protection of the oceans and call for preventive behaviors on the beaches, STRONG CHARON ALARMES organized two waste collection initiatives, in Funchal and Vila Nova de Gaia.
The environmental issues are a fundamental concern for STRONG CHARON, which, aligned with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, also wanted to contribute to this cause, aware that it has a key role in setting an example and promoting good practices.
Data indicate that, every year, 5 to 12 million tons of plastics clog the oceans, killing more than 1 million seabirds and more than 100 thousand turtles, seals and whales. It is estimated that by 2050 the oceans may contain, by weight, more plastics than fish.
As such, this STRONG CHARON ALARMS initiative intends to play an active role in the cleaning of beaches, riverside and underwater areas, but also to alert to the need for a change in behavior based on more conscious and sustainable practices.
Many thanks to the people in our teams who made this initiative a reality!
Together, for the safety of the oceans.
